Printing with Plants

In this three hour workshop you will experiment with the printmaking capabilities of a gel plate.

This is a wonderful way to make realistic prints of soft botanicals and it also lends itself to very free mark making expression.

This workshop is especially suitable for anyone who enjoys working quickly and intuitively.

I really enjoy working with people who want to move foward by observing and experimenting in new and unexpected ways.

STUDIO MENTORSHIP with exhibition

Have you always wanted your own studio space, to be part of a supportive creative community and to take your art practice to the next level?

This may well be the opportunity you have been waiting for.

I am taking interest now for 2024 at my studio in Ditchling, East Sussex UK..

Successful applicants will be working on a body of work using their preferred media and will have the opportunity to curate an exhibition of their work at Artist Open Houses or Artwave during 2024.

A dedicated work bench and storage area for your materials is provided and there is wall space to hang work in progress.

You will need the ability to work independently within a framework and timescale for your exhibition.

This is a mentorship designed to build your confidence in curating a cohesive exhibition of your creative practice and as such I welcome applications from painters, textile artists, printmakers and writers.

For more information or to register your interest please send a message via the contacts page with links to your website or social media.

South Downs re(treat)
a one day studio immersive experience

Suitable for experienced creatives looking for a Studio Retreat.  Included are three work benches and plenty of room to hang work in progress and really dig deep into your practice in a warm and supportive environment.

The studio is based at The Turner Dumbrell Workshops in the beautiful village of Ditchling in East Sussex. There are gorgeous walks right from the door with views over The South Downs. Ditchling has a long history with artists and makers, check out the Ditchling Museum and Turner Dumbrell websites.

The studio is suitable for two people and this is a great opportunity to spend time with a fellow artist friend!

Seawhite paints are included as well as various mark making tools and equipment, including gel plates for printmaking which I am happy to demonstrate. I provide a welcome pack of paper but please bring any canvas,  panels or specialty papers you may wish to work on.

Mornings begin with mark making exercises in reference to the South Downs using ink and dip pens, graphite and pencil.  From here we explore colour and experiment with different tools and applications of paint. I will show examples of my work and process and you are then free to make concertina booklets, smaller studies on paper or  push these ideas further with your own projects. By the end of the day you will have a small body of work and ideas to develop further.

There is something deeply restorative about giving yourself the space and time to develop a single idea and this can have long reaching benefits.

The retreat is £90 per person which also includes hot drinks, pastries and cake. Lunch is available at local coffee shops and pubs in the Village just a 5 min walk or you can bring your own.

The price for two friends sharing the day is £160

The Studio is available from 10 until 5 pm, and just to let you know it is a former Hayloft and there are stairs.
